Secretary of State Simon wants voters to know: You only have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to drop off absentee ballots
By Brian Bakst | MPR News
Minnesota voters are running low on time to return their completed absentee ballots in person.
Secretary of State Steve Simon is reminding voters that there are strict deadlines when it comes to hand-delivery of ballots. Ballots in the mail have until election night to arrive but that’s not the case with those dropped off in person.
“3 p.m. is when hand-delivery can be affected, either by handing it directly to a human being or putting one’s own ballot in a drop box. Very important. Tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 p.m.,” Simon said.
A federal court ruling has raised doubts about votes that come in late. Despite earlier state guidance that mailed ballots would count for up to a week after the election, future litigation could lead to removal of those votes from tallies.
As of Monday, more than 1.7 million Minnesotans have already had their ballots accepted. -
Election officials: Double-check your polling location before heading out to vote
By Kirsti Marohn | MPR News
Minnesotans who plan to vote in person on Election Day should check ahead of time to make sure their polling place hasn't moved.
The state has about 3,000 polling places, but not all are in the same place as in previous years because some polling places have been moved because of COVID-19 health risks.
"We have been encouraging voters just to double-check their information and it's really easy to do that on our website at www.mnvotes.org/pollfinder," says Risikat Adesaogun, spokesperson for the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office.
She says some polling places were moved because they were in nursing homes or assisted living facilities where residents are at higher risk from COVID-19.
