Where is the Real America? More places than you think
This week on Flyover we’re knocking down the myths of “Real America” and discussing the values that tie us together as a nation.

Politicians often portray “real America” as some nostalgic, heartland-rooted, mythic place that is somehow more genuine than the coasts or the cities of this country. But Americans who hail from cities and coasts, flatlands and rural farm towns share many of the same aspirations for their families and ambitions for the country.

There's a public 'fight' over defining the real America and there always has been. Think Jefferson-Hamilton for instance. But the beauty of this country and the constitution is that there is allowance for an institutionalized tension between differing viewpoints- without violence. Something alarming happening now is the name calling and demonization of other perspectives by many-with the purpose of shutting them down others and excluding them from the conversation. Carey-
I have heard you do this.See the recent Economist article on colleges for a shocker. The 'real America' allows for different perspectives and practices within agreed upon boundaries of free speech, "justice for all', pursuit of happiness- opportunity for all, freedom to worship God - or not.
