Going back in time
"We made plans to go to a different Minnesota Historical Society site each month and are planning short trips around those visits. This past weekend we were at the Snake River Fur Trading Post. We were outdoors for part of the tour and stayed overnight a couple nights in Moose Lake where we walked along the Soo Trail. My 11-year-old daughter and I picked raspberries along the trail and enjoyed seeing the wildflowers and chokecherries. We also spent one day in Duluth at Canal Park where the kids enjoyed skipping rocks and a picnic on the beach. It’s a 3-4 hour drive for us from Fergus Falls but it was a great weekend away and the weather was fine on Friday and Saturday for being outside. Last month’s trip was to Oliver Kelley Farm where we were outdoors seeing what a working farm of the 19th century was like. Horses pulling a plow through a field of newly growing corn, a garden to support six people with produce for a year, turkeys, pigs, sheep and chickens were all enjoyed outside." — Kirsten Holzner -
Butterfly summer
We got this submission from Terrae Weatherman at the beginning of the summer:"On our summer bucket list is finding and raising monarch butterflies. We did this with a few last summer but had to hunt for milkweed. We planted our own last fall to be ready this summer."Here's the latest:"We have our first caterpillars." -
